Adrian's text on the history of windfly

History of wingfly

An early attempt at wingsuit flying was made on 4 February 1912 by a 33 year old tailor, Franz Reichelt, who jumped from the Eiffel Tower to test his invention of a combination of parachute and wing, which was similar to modern wingsuits. He hesitated quite a long time before he jumped, and hit the ground head first, opening a measurable hole, but an autopsy showed that he died of a heart attack before hitting the pavement.

These early wingsuits were made of materials such as canvas, wood, silk etc... In the mid-1990s, the modern wingsuit was developed by Patrick de Gayardon of France, adapted from the model used by John Carta. In 1997, the Bulgarian Sammy Popov designed and built a wingsuit which had a larger wing between the legs and longer wings on the arms. His prototype was developed at Boulder City, Nevada. Testing was conducted in a vertical wind tunnel in Las Vegas at Flyaway Las Vegas. Popov's wingsuit first flew in October 1998 over Jean, Nevada, but it never went into commercial production.

Popov's design was great; it was able to slow the vertical speed to 30 km/h while gliding horizontally at speeds over 300 km/h. In 1998, Chuck Raggs built a version which incorporated hard ribs inside the wings. Although these more rigid wings, made the wingsuit heavier and more difficult to flys.

Pepe's Text on Bob Marley

Bob Marley OM (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter, musician, and guitarist who achieved international fame and acclaim. Starting out in 1963 with the group the Wailers, he forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide. The Wailers would go on to release some of the earliest reggae records with producer Lee Scratch Perry. After the Wailers disbanded in 1974,Marley pursued a solo career that culminated in the release of the album Exodus in 1977, which established his worldwide reputation and produced his status as one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 75 million records

Robert Nesta Marley was born on the farm of his maternal grandfather in Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, to Norval Sinclair Marley (1885-1955) and Cedella Booker (1926-2008). Norval Marley was a British-born European-Jamaican from Sussex England, whose family had Syrian Jewish origins. Norval claimed to have been a captain in the Royal Marines, though at the time of his marriage to Cedella Booker, an African-Jamaican then 18 years old, he was employed as a plantation overseer. Though Bob Marley was named Nesta Robert Marley, a Jamaican passport official would later reverse his first and middle names. Norval provided financial support for his wife and child but seldom saw them as he was often away.

Pablo's text on the history of the cinema

HISTORY OF THE CINEMA

The first eleven years of motion pictures show the cinema moving from a novelty to an established large-scale entertainment industry. The films became several minutes long consisting of several shots. The first rotating camera for taking panning shots was built in 1897. The first film studios were built in 1897. Special effects were introduced and film continuity, involving action moving from one sequence into another, began to be used. In 1900, continuity of action across successive shots was achieved and the close-up shot was introduced. Most films of this period were what came to be called "chase films". The first use of animation in movies was in 1899. The first feature length multi-reel film was a 1906 Australian production. The first successful permanent theatre showing only films was "The Nickelodeon" in Pittsburgh in 1905. By about 1910, actors began to receive screen credit for their roles, and the way to the creation of film stars was opened. Regular newsreels were exhibited from 1910 and soon became a popular way for finding out the news. Overall, from about 1910, American films had the largest share of the market in all European countries except France.

New film techniques that were introduced in this period include the use of artificial lighting, fire effects and Low-key lighting (i.e. lighting in which most of the frame is dark) for enhanced atmosphere during sinister scenes. As films grew longer, specialist writers were employed to simplify more complex stories derived from novels or plays into a form that could be contained on one reel. Genres began to be used as categories; the main division was into comedy and drama, but these categories were further subdivided. The years of the First World War were a complex transitional period for the film industry. The exhibition of films changed from short one-reel programmes to feature films. Exhibition venues became larger and began charging higher prices. By 1914, continuity cinema was the established mode of commercial cinema. One of the advanced continuity techniques involved an accurate and smooth transition from one shot to another. D. W. Griffith had the highest standing amongst American directors in the industry, because of the dramatic excitement he conveyed to the audience through his films.

Marina Garcés' text on the Madrid Derby

The Madrid Derby  is the name given to football matches between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid are clubs with contrasting identities and very different fates. Historically, Real have long been seen as the establishment club,  on the other side, Atlético was always characterized by a "sentimiento de rebeldía" , a sense of rebellion.

In Franco years, it was Atlético that was the preferred team of the regime.  Franco, however, sought to make political capital out of Real's European Cup titles at a time when Spain was internationally isolated; said one minister, "Real Madrid are the best ambassadors we've ever had." Thus, Atlético fans regularly chanted that Real was "el equipo del gobierno, la vergüenza del país" — the team of the government, the shame of the country.

The Santiago Bernabéu, Real's stadium, is alongside banks and businesses on the classy Paseo de la Castellana street, and the Vicente Calderón can be found besides the new and really expensive park along the Manzanares River, near the Cathedral and the Royal Palace. Real draw greater support because of their historically greater resources and success, while Atlético claim to have a more working class fan base, which comes particularly from the south of the city.

Sergio's Text on Tortuguero

Last summer I was in tortuguero (Costa Rica) and there, I could see an amazing phenomenon: turtle’s spawning.
Turtles nest and lay their eggs on the shores of the natural park between July and October, a period in which the natural park is frequented by thousands of tourists.
However, being a fragile ecosystem, only a certain number of tourists are allowed in each tour spawning, to thereby avoid disturbing nesting turtles.
The tours are conducted in the evenings. I will tell you how were the rules of the tour to see turtles spawning:
First we had to put off the mobiles phone.
Second we had to go with red light lanterns (it was dark).
Third we had to stay quiet.
When all these rules are ok the tour guide notifies you when you can see the turtle.
The turtle leaves the sea, excavates a nest and lay about one hundred eggs.
She goes into a trance and in this moment you can see the process without disturbing her.
After three months the little turtles break the eggs and have to run to avoid to be eaten by a lot of predators before reaching the ocean.

Only a few numbers of turtles survive and one on three hundred lives and reaches the adult stage.
